A LUXURY MOVIE EXPERIENCE LIKE FEW OTHERS TO OPEN AT OCEAN RANCH

August 10, 2011

Aliso Viejo, CA -- Cinépolis Luxury Cinemas, an off-shoot of Latin America’s largest movie theater operators, will open its first Orange County location at Ocean Ranch Laguna Niguel in early 2012, Shea Properties announced today.

Cinépolis will redesign the existing theater to include 684 plush, reclining leather seats, in seven state-of-the-art, digital auditoriums, providing a true luxury movie experience. The theater will also include a wine, beer and cocktail menu along with gourmet movie fare with a lobby for lounging pre- and post-movie, patio dining for those wishing to eat outdoors, as well as “restaurant-at-your-seat” service with an on-call waiter button at each seat inside the theater.

“We recently entered the U.S. market in Del Mar and Carlsbad, and we found that Laguna Niguel was the perfect fit for our next location. We love movies; however, we felt the experience of going to the theater lacked a little sparkle. We hope to change things up a bit—all at a price point that makes the Cinépolis movie experience an affordable luxury,” said Carlos Wellman, Operations Director of Cinépolis.

The Del Mar location, located in the Del Mar Highlands Town Center opened at the end of July to rave reviews and a warm welcome from the community. The thriving flagship location created immense buzz, while filing a niche in the movie market. Plans for the second theater in La Costa, in northern San Diego are well underway with an opening planned in the coming months. Cinépolis plans to expand into Orange County with the first theater in Laguna Niguel and a second in Rancho Santa Margarita followed by plans for more theaters to open throughout California and the West Coast.

Among the many luxury amenities offered by Cinépolis is “Cineticket,” a service that allows you to reserve your seat via web, mobile, or call center—similar to reserving your seats on an airplane. Gourmet fare including sushi, cheese boards and wraps will be available from the elevated concession stand as will traditional movie favorites including hotdogs, candies and popcorn in six flavors.

“We looked at many different concepts for theater operators,” said Colm Macken, CEO of Shea Properties, “and Cinépolis was far and away the best choice. We wanted to do something different in a continuing effort to make Ocean Ranch a true destination center.”
The new theater will be located in the current Edwards/Regal Cinema location, which is closing at the end of August. The theater is the latest in a string of leasing enhancements at the center. This year alone, Ocean Ranch has added a Beach Pit BBQ, Chipotle and Five Guys Burgers & Fries.

Other retailers include 24-Hour Fitness, Savannah Chop House, Fred’s Mexican Café, Peet’s Coffee, Trader Joe’s and Bed Bath & Beyond.

Cinépolis, Latin America’s largest movie theater chain and the fourth largest worldwide, created its luxury VIP experience in 1999 and is considered a pioneer in the market. For more information, visit http://www.cinepolisusa.com/
